Reports suggest the route accessing the Goûter Refuge, via the Grand Couloir on the Mt Blanc approach is currently very dry and dangerous. This video shows what can happen. Anyone fancy a holiday in Scotland!?
Anyone visiting the Scottish hills at this time of the year should be aware of stalking on estates and ask for information of areas being used. This link is a good place to start.
Well I don’t know about everyone else, but the big success for London 2012 has been a breath of fresh air for me. It’s just great to hear positive reports from the media, in place of the usual doom and gloom. No doubt the paralympics will generate similar success. Well done Seb Coe and his extensive management team and of course every athlete and the millions of people who turned out to cheer for Team GB. Truly inspirational.
The John Muir Trust has launched the Steall Gorge footpath appeal. See this link
Earlier this year, the Trust won £25,000 towards the upgrade after topping the voting in a contest organised by the European Outdoor Conservation Association. We’re now looking to raise £60,000 to complete the shortfall we need to make critical repairs in good time. This is a great footpath deserving of some care and attention so please pass on the message to everyone you know.
One of my winter climbing guests is also a keen kayak paddler, both at home in Japan and here in Scotland. On this page of the blog I’ll upload photos and comments from ‘Yoshi’ as they arrive. Thanks to Yasuyoshi Sakai.
Rainy season will have gone and summer will have come in the next few days, although I am not sure El Nino in Pacific Ocean and Okhotsk High Pressure, which have caused low temperature in cloudy SHIMOKITA Peninsula along the east coast of Pacific Ocean in contrast with sunny TSUGARU along the west coast of JAPAN Sea in these few days, will be dominant in this summer. Dated 22nd July 2012.
Did two routes on this left hand side (don’t know the name) and Cheri couloir on the right. Both in perfect condition but with temperatures rising they won’t be for much longer.Regards
